Sasin Tipchai is a documentary and lifestyle photographer based in Bangkok, Thailand. He passionately captures authentic moments, creating timeless and emotive portraits. For his submission to the Focused initiative to raise awareness around the UNiTE campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls, Sasin chooses to represent women and children in Asian lifestyle and culture, stating that he provides;
“The perspective of women’s life in Asia, especially in developing countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Indonesia, where gender stereotypes favour men over women.”
With this in mind, the series shows hard working women as people who inspire us and who deserve our respect.
He continues by explaining how he has photographed women of all ages, beautifully carrying out various types of labour intensive tasks. These women are mothers, daughters and grandmothers, revealing that sexism and bigotry does not discriminate against age. It is also communicates how this is something that has been felt through generations. He immortalizes these women against the dramatic landscapes found all over traditional Asian countrysides, emphasizing their beauty and strength with these powerful backdrops;
“They are the core of our society, very strong and beautiful, but can be fragile. This is the reason why we must respect, honour and protect them.” - Sasin Tipchai
